DMX (birth name Earl Simmons) was born in Mount Vernon (New York) in 1970 and is a rapper, actor, and record producer. His stage name is a reference to a programmable digital drum machine (called the Oberheim DMX) that he frequently used and he began his career in 1991 with the release of his debut demo tape, Unstoppable Force and Three Little Pigs. His breakthrough came in 1998 with his debut single (Get at Me Dog) hitting #39 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was certified Gold in the US and his debut studio album (It's Dark and Hell Is Hot) topped both the US Billboard 200 and Billboard’s Top R&B and Hip Hop Albums chart. He went on to have a stellar career with 7 studio albums, 4 compilation albums, 1 extended play, 1 mix tape, 22 singles, and he’s sold over 74 million records worldwide. He’s received many accolades including 2 American Music Awards (for Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Artist) and he’s been nominated for 3 Grammy Awards (for Best Rap Album and 2 for Best Rap Solo Performance) and 5 MTV Video Music Awards (for Best Video from a Film, Best Breakthrough Video, and 3 for Best Rap Video).
